Single-mode (SM) 9/125 μm cables are characterized by high transmission parameters and low dispersion, resulting in very low signal loss. They are used for long-
distance signal transmission in extensive telecommunications networks, backbones, CATV, access networks, campus networks, WANs, and FTTx. The optical fibers are protected against moisture with a hydrophobic gel and reinforced with aramid fibers to prevent rodents.
